Dental Implant Procedure

When you have dental implants done, you may receive new teeth within a few days or after a few months. Essentially, all dental implant treatment will require healing time for the implant post to heal, fused and adjoin with your jaw bone. Your new set of teeth may however be loaded on earlier or later dependent on the methodology or implant treatment procedure protocol used by your implantologist and prosthodontists.

You probably have heard of the terms

  1. conventional implants
  2. one day implants (immediate implants)
  3. immediate function implants (immediate load)

The implant treatment methodology selected by you and your dentist at BIDH dental implant clinic is based on multiple factors including your specific needs, bone and dental condition as well as budget.

Conventional Implants

Conventional tooth implants
  • Conventional implants are applicable to almost anyone who is looking to replace one, multiple, all missing teeth with a permanent restoration solution.
  • It is done in 2 stages normally in 2 trips about 2 to 6 months apart.
  • Conventional implants may be done for most types of bone conditions. If there is moderate or severe jaw bone loss, bone grafting may be recommended prior to dental implantation.

Immediate Implants

Same day implants bangkok
  • Imediate implants are also known as one day or same day implants. This is the case whereby dental implants is placed during the same time after teeth are extracted.
  • Crowns, bridge, dentures may or may not be placed on during same trip depending on whether immediate loaded implants may be done.
  • These one day implants are normally recommended only for cases with good jaw bone conditions.

Immediate Load Implants

one day implants
  • Immediate loaded implants are whereby permanent or temporary crowns, bridges or dentures are placed during the same trip when the dental implant posts is embedded in jaws.
  • Immediate function implants may follow after conventional implants or immediate implants.
  • It are normally recommended only for cases with good jawbone conditions.

What is conventional dental implant?

Dental implants are conventionally done in phases whereby your teeth and bone are left to heal properly before moving on to the next phase of treatment. If you have an existing tooth, teeth is removed and left to heal for about 2 months. After healing, the first stage surgical placement of the titanium implant posts is done. The implant posts is then left to heal for 2 to 6 months or more. This healing period is called the osseointegration period whereby the dental implants posts integrate and fuse with the jaw bone. During the second stage of your implant treatment, fixed prostheticss such as crown, dental bridges or overdentures are constructed and fitted onto the dental implant posts.

Conventional teeth implants allow goood predictability and stability. Because healing time is given, it permits successful results.

What is one day implant (same day implant or immediate implants)?

New technologies and materials utilized at BIDH dental implant clinic now enables one day implants or immediate loading of implants to be done. One day implants or same day implants refers to dental implants that are placed immediately at the time of extraction of a non-infected tooth.

If you have an existing tooth that requires extraction, under conventional implant protocols, you will need to extract the tooth and leave the wound area to heal for about 2 months or more before re-evaluating if the bone is ready to start the first stage implant post placement. For one day implants, if there is no infection in site, same day implantation is done at the same time when the implant posts is inserted.

What is immediate function implants (immediate load implants)?

Immediate load implants refers to the placement of fixed prosthetics such as crowns or bridge on the implants immediately after the surgical phase of embedding the implants can now also be done.

The immediate function implant procedures shorten overall treatment time in that you have a new set of teeth after implant placement. Immediate load implants is however only done for selected full jaw cases or for single implant cases with suited bone condition and quality. It is therefore not suited for all cases indications.

An actual clinical examination will be required before determining the feasiblity for immediate implants or immediated loaded implants and the types of dental implants protocols are best suited for your case.

Dental Implant Treatment Procedure

The implant procedure is very smiliar same whether one or all teeth are missing. Below outlines what you may expect during dental implant treatment:

  1. Implant site preparation
  2. Placing the implant
  3. Healing process
  4. Attaching the post
  5. Placing the crown, bridge or denture
  6. Maintaining your implant
tooth implant treatment

1. Implant Site Preparation

The gum tissue is opened to expose the bone area where the implant will be placed. In situations where there is insufficient bone structure, bone grafting may be a recommended procedure. Once healthy bone material has been established, a special drill is used to prepare the bone to receive the implant.

2. Placing the Implant

After the bone has been prepared, the implant is placed and the tissue is sutured.

3. The Healing Process – Osseointegration

The healing process takes about two months. This is the amount of time it usually takes the implant to become part of the lower jaw, commonly refered to as osseointegration. The sutures are typically removed however, seven to fourteen days after surgery.

4. Attachment over Post

When the gum tissue is ready, an appointment is arranged with you. An abutment is screwed into the implant post and holds the new porcelain crown. A tooth impression is taken to make your new implant prostheses. At BIDH dental implant clinic, we can customize abutments at our dental labs and your zirconium all ceramic crowns. The crowns uses CAD/CAM technologies and is attached to the implant post. Having our own dedicated internal lab with technicians on standby assure that your new porcelain tooth possesses translucency properties similar to a natural tooth for natural aesthetics.

5. Placing the Crown/ Denture

After impressions are taken a crown is made and shaded to match your existing teeth. The crown is then slipped over the post and cemented. The completed implant with its final prosthetic crown appears as a natural tooth.

6. Maintaining Your Dental Implant

Once fully installed, regular dental visits and scrupulous oral hygiene are necessary for keeping the implants clean and the mouth healthy. The dentist will provide instructions regarding oral hygiene and proper dieting.

Computer based simulation and CT Scans now enables better diagnoses for dental implant treatments.

Why Choose BIDH Dental Implant Clinic?

Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria for Immediate Implants

If you have a fractured or decayed tooth that needs to be extracted, a dental implant may be placed at the time of the tooth extraction. However, if your fractured or decayed tooth is infected, immediate dental implant placement is not advisable. There should be no apical disorder or inflammation at the area of the implant site.

Good bone quality and quantity is required for immediate implants to be successful, thus single day implants may not be applicable to all cases. Different bone volume and density and preparation techniques will influence the level of stability. The patient should be healthy and compliant with good oral hygiene.

Other criterias include having good gingival/ periodontal or periapical status of adjacent teeth as well as favourable and stable occlusal relationship.

As with any procedure, it is always important to consult with your dental specialists on whether a particular treatment such as immediate implant is suitable for you.

Materials for Increased Success of Shorten Treatment

Each implant brand – Nobel Biocare, Straumann, SIC Invent normally has varying implant ranges. The ranges carry differented patented properties that material that help support an increased integration or promotes successful results.

Below are some material technologies from the world’s top established implant systems offered at BIDH dental implant clinic.

TiUnite Dental Implants from Nobel BioCare
  • Implant posts from Nobel Biocare are made from titanium called TiUnite. This surface enhances the titanium oxide layer of its post to provide unique stability. Its texture is ideal and has porosity for bone apposition. This enhanced its environment for bone formation.
  • The structure of the implant surface is similar to human cancellous bone thus absorbs blood proteins, aids bone growth and soft tissue integration for healthy connective and epithelial tissue giving you a natural looking gingiva.
  • Nobel Biocare also carries a further premium range of implants called NobelActive implants that incorporates TiUnite and chemical coat surface suited for immediate and immediate load implants.
SLActive Dental Implants from ITI Straumann
  • Straumann has developed a new implant post material called roxolid that combines zirconia and titanium. Its new patented implant post material enables higher load whilst being smaller and shorter.
  • SLactive dental implant from Straumann is a special implant surfaces that optimizes its molecular structure enabling a further reduction of the average healing time from 6-8 weeks to 3-4 weeks. Active surfacers implants are therefore good options for immediate loaded or immediate dental implants treatments.
  • The SLActive surface topography exhibits a fundamentally improved surface that is chemically active and hydrophilic. It significantly promotes initial healing reaction for faster osseointegration process and higher implant stability.
  • Scientific studies on SLActive shows :
    • The risks of failure is reduced by up to 60%
    • Aggressive protocols with immediate and early loading (at 4 weeks) shows excellent survival rate of 98%
    • Survival rate of 98% outperforms average survival rate in industry based on literature review on clinical studies across all other competitor implant systems
    • Results illustrates that SLActive offers more implant stability in the early critical loading period relative to conventional implant surfaces
