Dental Implant Procedure
When you have dental implants done, you may receive new teeth within a few days or after a few months. Essentially, all dental implant treatment will require healing time for the implant post to heal, fused and adjoin with your jaw bone. Your new set of teeth may however be loaded on earlier or later dependent on the methodology or implant treatment procedure protocol used by your implantologist and prosthodontists.
You probably have heard of the terms
- conventional implants
- one day implants (immediate implants)
- immediate function implants (immediate load)
The implant treatment methodology selected by you and your dentist at BIDH dental implant clinic is based on multiple factors including your specific needs, bone and dental condition as well as budget.
Conventional Implants

- Conventional implants are applicable to almost anyone who is looking to replace one, multiple, all missing teeth with a permanent restoration solution.
- It is done in 2 stages normally in 2 trips about 2 to 6 months apart.
- Conventional implants may be done for most types of bone conditions. If there is moderate or severe jaw bone loss, bone grafting may be recommended prior to dental implantation.
Immediate Implants

- Imediate implants are also known as one day or same day implants. This is the case whereby dental implants is placed during the same time after teeth are extracted.
- Crowns, bridge, dentures may or may not be placed on during same trip depending on whether immediate loaded implants may be done.
- These one day implants are normally recommended only for cases with good jaw bone conditions.
Immediate Load Implants

- Immediate loaded implants are whereby permanent or temporary crowns, bridges or dentures are placed during the same trip when the dental implant posts is embedded in jaws.
- Immediate function implants may follow after conventional implants or immediate implants.
- It are normally recommended only for cases with good jawbone conditions.
What is conventional dental implant?
Dental implants are conventionally done in phases whereby your teeth and bone are left to heal properly before moving on to the next phase of treatment. If you have an existing tooth, teeth is removed and left to heal for about 2 months. After healing, the first stage surgical placement of the titanium implant posts is done. The implant posts is then left to heal for 2 to 6 months or more. This healing period is called the osseointegration period whereby the dental implants posts integrate and fuse with the jaw bone. During the second stage of your implant treatment, fixed prostheticss such as crown, dental bridges or overdentures are constructed and fitted onto the dental implant posts.
Conventional teeth implants allow goood predictability and stability. Because healing time is given, it permits successful results.
What is one day implant (same day implant or immediate implants)?
New technologies and materials utilized at BIDH dental implant clinic now enables one day implants or immediate loading of implants to be done. One day implants or same day implants refers to dental implants that are placed immediately at the time of extraction of a non-infected tooth.
If you have an existing tooth that requires extraction, under conventional implant protocols, you will need to extract the tooth and leave the wound area to heal for about 2 months or more before re-evaluating if the bone is ready to start the first stage implant post placement. For one day implants, if there is no infection in site, same day implantation is done at the same time when the implant posts is inserted.
What is immediate function implants (immediate load implants)?
Immediate load implants refers to the placement of fixed prosthetics such as crowns or bridge on the implants immediately after the surgical phase of embedding the implants can now also be done.
The immediate function implant procedures shorten overall treatment time in that you have a new set of teeth after implant placement. Immediate load implants is however only done for selected full jaw cases or for single implant cases with suited bone condition and quality. It is therefore not suited for all cases indications.
An actual clinical examination will be required before determining the feasiblity for immediate implants or immediated loaded implants and the types of dental implants protocols are best suited for your case.
